Sifnos is an island in the western Cyclades between Serifos and Milos. The permanent population is approximately 2800. The quality of life makes it a magnet for people to reside. As a result, it is one of the few islands in Greece where the population is growing.
I have been visiting the island since 1999, primarily to collaborate with the Lembesis family of potters in the village of Artemona. But over the years, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique character of the environment, the people who care for it and the annual cadence of their lives.
These drawings reflect upon some of the details.
