Norman Gilbertson :
On our first day we started by going to Angkor Thom, a walled and moated royal city of the Buddhist period. It is three kilometers round and has several large Buddhas outside where people worship and are attended by saffron robed monks.
We chose to ride round the outside on an elephant before going on to the ruins.
Elephants are a rough ride.-- they seem to lack shock absorbers, I think a dramamine would be right before a long ride!
Our exploration went on for four days and we saw many extraordinary sites. Diane continued to marvel at the similarities in narratives among cultures. She took many photographs and made many notes and sketches. I am sure we will see some of them soon in either artwork or lectures.
