There is a temple at Ayutthaya, the old capital, that is dedicated to a queen who rode elephants into battle against invaders. She died in battle, by her husband's side, on an elephant. In the temple, she is personified by Barbie dolls dressed up in warrior costume.

Not far away at the summer palace, topiary elephants graze.
